Letter sent to the chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
A group of 44 legislators signed a letter to White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Chair Brenda Mallory this week. They urged more oversight over the emissions from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry and the process of approving permits.
President Biden’s administration has been expanding LNG extraction to make the United States a top global exporter of this fuel. The council is currently developing a formal structure for how the federal government will certify the sustainable extraction of the substance, which will be published in the form of future guidance.
The legislators note that this guidance will likely be based on research conducted by President Trump’s administration, which they state considered the emissions of drilling but not the emissions of the transportation, storage, and infrastructure also required to drill for natural gas.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress as they consider the environmental impact of the export of liquified natural gas.
- For wisdom for Chair Mallory as she oversees the Council on Environmental Quality.
